Midtjylland vs Lazio: Recent History

The two sides have never met before in their history, although Lazio have a positive record in their one previous meeting with a Danish side – beating FC Copenhagen 5-3 on aggregate in their Champions League qualifying third round clash back in the 2001-02 season.

Midtjylland have never beaten an Italian side in four previous attempts, losing twice to Napoli and picking up a draw and loss against Atalanta.

Midtjylland vs Lazio: Team News

Lazio are heading into the match off the back of two positive results, a 4-2 thriller against Feyenoord and a comfortable 2-0 win over Hellas Verona. They’ll be hoping to carry forward this momentum in Denmark.

Midtjylland’s season has not started well – the Danish side sit 8th in the Superliga after nine games, picking up only 10 points from two wins and four draws. Their last win came on 29th August, beating Brondby 2-0 away from home.

Maurizio Sarri will be unable to count on Manuel Lazzari clash, with the Italian full back managing a hamstring injury. Pedro’s condition is also a little uncertain due to a niggling ankle issue.

Pablo Ortiz and Junior Brumado have both been ruled out of the game for Midtjylland – Ortiz won’t return until next month due to a foot injury and Brumado’s season is already over due to a serious muscle injury.

Expected Starting Lineups

Sarri plans to rotate the squad a little for the team’s second Europa League match – Mario Gila is likely to get the nod over Alessio Romagnoli and Stefan Radu will seemingly start on the left side of the defence ahead of Adam Marusic. Matteo Cancellieri could start up front in place of star striker Ciro Immobile.

Albert Capellas is set to deploy the same or similar starting 11 to the one that lost to Sturm Graz 1-0 last week, although initial indications suggest that he’ll switch the formation from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2.

Midtjylland (4-4-2): Lossl; Dalsgaard, Sviatchenko, Juninho, Paulinho, Sorensen, Evander, Dreyer, Isaksen: Sisto, Kaba.

Lazio (4-3-3): Provedel; Hysaj, Gila, Patric, Radu; Basic, Cataldi, Luis Alberto; Felipe Anderson, Cancellieri, Pedro.
