Lazio are keen to open contract renewal talks with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic soon but they may be forced to wait until after the World Cup in Qatar.
The 27-year-old Serbian star was the subject of serious transfer rumours this summer, as usual, with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United both reportedly keen on securing his signature. Ultimately a move never materialised and Milinkovic-Savic has continued impressing in Rome under Maurizio Sarri.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio president Claudio Lotito wants to open contract renewal talks with Milinkovic-Savic after this international break but this sentiment isn’t shared by agent Mateja Kezman, who’d prefer to postpone things until the upcoming World Cup is over.
Lotito isn’t too satisfied with this idea, not wanting to be stuck in a transfer window whilst holding the talks.
With a contract expiring in 2024, Lazio do risk losing Milinkovic-Savic on a free transfer if they fail to tie him down to a new contract ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
