Matteo Cancellieri has the chance to start in Lazio’s upcoming game against Spezia, giving him the space to show his qualities in Rome.
The 20-year-old Italian forward joined the Biancocelesti in the summer from Hellas Verona, adding an exciting option upfront to Maurizio Sarri’s squad. Cancellieri has only came off the bench since his arrival, playing as both a centre forward and a right winger, but the injury to Ciro Immobile means his fortunes could change this weekend.
As highlighted by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Sarri may finally give Cancellieri his first start in a Lazio shirt in the upcoming game against Spezia, using Immobile’s injury as an opportunity to deploy the 20-year-old.
During the pre-season training camp, Cancellieri mostly worked as a false nine, but his cameo appearances this season have seen him left on the right wing. Immobile’s absence leaves him the space to start as a centre forward, a good test after a positive start to life in the Italian capital.
Should the 20-year-old Italian impress, it would give Sarri the confidence to rest Immobile on occasion, rotating in the former Hellas Verona man instead.
