Danilo Cataldi has grown into a strong leader in the Lazio midfield following Maurizio Sarri’s arrival last year.

The 28-year-old Italian midfielder is a product of the Biancocelesti’s youth system and spent time on loan with Crotone, Genoa and Benevento before finally settling into Simone Inzaghi’s squad in Rome in 2018. Cataldi’s first few years in the Lazio first team left a little to be desired but he’s found a new lease of life since the arrival of Sarri.

As highlighted by Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Cataldi is now a core part of the Lazio squad and a key leader in the team’s midfield, learning well from Lucas Leiva over the last few years. He played a key role in bringing the squad back up after their shock 5-1 loss to FC Midtjylland and he put in an incredible performance in the win over Cremonese before the international break.

The 28-year-old is now a nailed-on starter in the Biancocelesti squad and will undoubtedly be offered a new contract in the coming months, with his current deal set to expire in 2024.
