Provedel: ‘What Happened in Denmark Will Serve as a Lesson’

Ivan Provedel took the positives from Lazio’s tough goalless draw against Sturm Graz.

The Biancocelesti could only pick up a point at the Merkur Arena after a hard-fought battle against their Austrian opposition, who looked better on the night but failed to convert any of their 15 shots. Whilst Lazio couldn’t edge out a winner, their defensive performance was a positive sign as the team continue to grow under Maurizio Sarri.

Speaking to DAZN (via LazioNews24) after the match, Provedel first commented on Lazio’s three Europa League group games so far.

If we think about the results, the glass is half empty. If we think about what we are doing, it is half full. What happened in Denmark will serve as a lesson for us throughout the year.

Today we struggled, but it wasn’t easy, we struggled to control the ball, they played a high tempo game. When you struggle to score, offside, not conceding goals is good.

He touched on the team’s growing defensive solidity this season.

The teams facing us try to put something extra on. We know it, we have already paid, today the performance was nevertheless important because we are becoming more solid.

Now we’re waiting for them at home. It’s difficult for the atmosphere and the pitch to go away, it will be difficult for them too, we’ll make the pitch factor, the atmosphere and the right spirit count.

The Italian shot stopper looked ahead to Lazio’s home match against Sturm Graz.

The growth is there, we have four points and we will face the next challenges in the best possible way.

Playing at home will be a factor in our favour, just as it was difficult for us to play away. We will exploit it with the right spirit and attitude.

Finally, Provedel discussed Lazio’s next Serie A clash against Fiorentina.

Fiorentina will be challenging for both teams, we are not looking at their momentum, we will prepare for it in the best possible way.

They have a good coach who will do everything to put us in difficulty.

With Feyenoord drawing FC Midtjylland in their clash yesterday, all four teams in Group F are now tied at four points, leaving the group wide open and making the next three matches key in determining which teams will progress to the Round of 16.
