Agent Aliaj: ‘Nothing Could Take Basic Away From Lazio’

Adrian Aliaj, the agent of midfielder Toma Basic, underlined his client’s happiness at Lazio following his slow start to the season.

The 25-year-old Croatian midfielder has struggled for consistent minutes this season under Maurizio Sarri, only starting in two games across Serie A and the Europa League. Basic has played 157 minutes of action, falling down the hierarchy following the arrival of Matias Vecino and the reintroduction of Luis Alberto.

Speaking to Gianluca Di Marzio, Alias discussed Basic’s happiness at Lazio and confirmed that his client isn’t looking for a move away.

Toma is fine in Italy. He’s happy and there’s nothing that could take him away from Rome. The preparation has been at a very high level. Basic has trained well, scored many goals and feels much improved after this first year in Italy.

Leaving now would make no sense. By the way, you haven’t seen the real Toma yet. He has so much quality, he is a complete player and the only one at the moment who can do both phases of the game in midfield.

Besides, we have a very long contract, which expires in 2026. The intention is to stay. To be reconfirmed is not so easy. He has every intention of doing it at Lazio, with Sarri.

The 25-year-old Basic joined Lazio last year from Bordeaux in a deal worth around €8 million. In his first season in the Italian capital, the Croatian midfielder made 40 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing three assists in that time.

He’ll be hoping for more consistent minutes in the run up to the World Cup break.
