Lazio Emphatic in Defensively Solid 4-0 Win Over Fiorentina

Lazio flexed their defensive muscles again as they weathered a storm in Florence to secure a 4-0 win over Fiorentina.

The Biancocelesti were hungry for a strong response is Tuscany after their tight draw with Sturm Graz last week and the team showed a good spirit as they sweated for all three points on a warm evening in Florence. Fiorentina’s last outing was a 3-0 win over Hearts, giving them confidence ahead of the Roman club’s visit.

Fiorentina started the match on the front foot but it was Lazio who took the advantage first after Matias Vecino’s glancing header found the back of the net following a Mattia Zaccagni corner.

The away side maintained their momentum and followed it up with a second 14 minutes later, when Zaccagni was rewarded with a goal of his own after a nice ball from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Viola did not lose hope and fought hard to try and find a goal of their own, but despite their best efforts Ivan Provedel couldn’t be beaten, with his defenders putting in a good shift to limit the number of chances on target.

Luis Alberto netted a tidy shot with less than five minutes left and Ciro Immobile also got on the scoresheet in the extra time to make it 4-0, securing all three points for Sarri’s side following another strong defensive performance.
