Ciro Immobile was proud to be the focal point of this Lazio side after their comfortable 4-0 win over Fiorentina.

The Biancocelesti were hungry to forget their goalless draw with Sturm Graz last week and they impressed in Florence, scoring twice in the first half and twice in the second to take home all three points, leaving the Viola exasperated. Immobile had another good game against Fiorentina, scoring a goal and providing an assist.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia (via LazioNews24), Immobile first discussed how it felt to tie Alessandro Del Piero at 11th in the Serie A all-time top scorer rankings.

I met Del Piero for Italy-England in Milan, we recalled that he made his debut in Serie A and in the Champions League. Reaching him for me is an enormous satisfaction, we all agree that Del Piero is the best for this sport.

I’m proud to be on the list with all those names. I’ll surpass him, but always with respect. As I’ve always said, I always aim for the maximum. Every year I want to improve even if age advances.

With these teammates it’s easy to reach my maximum potential, they know me, they know where I want the ball.

With advancing age I am managing to fit into certain mechanisms in which I struggled in the past. Today we put everything on the pitch and it showed.

He commented on his relationship with coach Maurizio Sarri.

When a coach celebrates you, also in the human aspect, it becomes even more important.

I make myself available to the team, they work day and night to prepare the matches and I try to give them a hand in the locker room.

The coach has settled in well, with the staff they always want the best from us.

The 32-year-old Italian star was proud to be a part of Lazio’s history.

I know that when I do my best on the pitch the goals come, both in Serie A and in Lazio, which has historically had the strongest Italian and European forwards.

It’s great to be part of the history of this club, I’ve been at the centre of the projects of all the coaches who have come through here and so I can give my best. I feel at home.

Immobile noted the importance of being a leader in the squad.

I feel like the leader of this team, they need me. Some players need to be spurred on, as captain I feel like consoling them when I see them down. From a mental point of view we have black-outs, physically we have always done well.

We often pass for what we are not. We have to keep our teammates on the ball in every match, both in Italy and in Europe.

Finally, Immobile made a brief comment about the Formula 1 season.

I’ve been watching but I can’t say what I think. As a fan I’ve had a lot of satisfaction but also many disappointments.

We have to improve, let’s hope well next year. It’s a passion that I’ve carried with me since I was a child with dad and my brother.
