Defensive Solidity
Lazio’s new defensive partnership of Patric and Alessio Romagnoli, playing in front of Provedel, have looked rock solid this season, giving Sarri’s side a new lease of life at the back. The Roman club have only conceded five goals in their first nine Serie A games of the campaign, a serious improvement compared to the issues seen at the back last year.
This increased solidity in defence gives the Lazio midfield confidence with the ball and allows the build-up play to shine with a little more flair, something that Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has shown often already this season.
The Stars Continue to Shine
Milinkovic-Savic did not let the transfer market noise of the summer distract him from his work on the pitch; the Serbian star has continued to prove his qualities as one of the best midfielders in the world and has already scored three goals and provided seven assists in the nine Serie A matches so far.
Immobile still has his decisive eye for goal and the 32-year-old has netted six goals in the nine games so far, being the focal point of the team’s attack. Luis Alberto has recovered from his difficult summer and is now looking magical again in the Biancocelesti midfield, keeping things exciting.
The Quick Entries & Slow Starts
Some of Lazio’s new arrivals in the summer have made an instant impact in Rome, with Provedel and Romagnoli in particular immediately slotting in perfectly in Sarri’s squad. The pair are key reasons behind the new defensive solidity, and fellow new face Mario Gila has also looked impressive when given the chance.
Other new arrivals are still waiting to show their skills in Rome, however. Luis Maximiano hasn’t seen a minute of action since his instant red card in the first minutes of the season and Nicolo Casale has also struggled to break into the starting lineup.
