Sarri on Lazio Win Without Immobile & Definition of Sarrismo

Maurizio Sarri was satisfied with what he saw from his Lazio squad in their 2-0 win over Atalanta and was already looking ahead to the Europa League clash against FC Midtjylland.

The Biancocelesti secured an important three points in Bergamo yesterday, impressing despite the absence of star striker Ciro Immobile. Mattia Zaccagni and Felipe Anderson drove Lazio to a win and the team will be feeling confident ahead of their upcoming European encounter.

Speaking in a press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Sarri first discussed the concept of utopia and if Lazio could fight for the Scudetto.

Utopia is unattainable. The Scudetto? Like utopia. We’ve played 11 games, we have to be calm. A good game against a good team.

At midnight we have to reset everything and think about the Europa League.

He commented on the team’s performance without star striker Immobile.

One month succeeds for many, six months for a few, nine months only for those who win. We are only at the beginning.

The 63-year-old Italian coach spoke about the Biancocelesti squad’s reaction to Immobile’s injury.

It’s clear that we need Ciro, then as we spoke during the week we said we had to get something else out of the others.

Today could have been the right match for a team that doesn’t want to give any points of reference. We are waiting to say that we can do without Immobile.

Sarri discussed if the win over Atalanta was the best Lazio match he’s overseen so far.

We’ve also played other good games. Florence was good, last year’s even better.  Today we played on an extraordinary pitch, when we play at home we can’t make the exits we did today.

He spoke about the concept of Sarrismo.

I can’t give you the definition, maybe my wife could give it to you. Grumpy man, a bit of a d*ckhead.

Tiki taka? No, ours was a forward-backward dribble and then vertical search. I had the team that did the most verticalisation in Serie A.

The Lazio coach commented on if he’d ask for a backup to Immobile in the January transfer window.

We haven’t approached the subject. Thinking about making deals in the market involves all the interests of the club.

Lazio historically don’t like the January market very much, the president has never made big interventions. I think the market meeting will last five minutes.

He sent a message to his players.

Go to bed thinking about Thursday and not tonight. We played a good game, but if we are happy tomorrow it means we will play a happy game on Thursday and at the end we will not be satisfied.

Sarri gave his thoughts on winger Felipe Anderson.

We all know the potential of this boy. It’s huge, he has expressed it very often but alternately. He can also have in the same game where he switches off and on. I hope he’s reached an age where he finds what he’s always lacked.

Finally, Sarri discussed Lazio’s six consecutive clean sheets in Serie A.

A statistic that must not condition us. We must always play with the same mentality to try not to concede goals. We talked about it with the players to find out what mistakes still need to be ironed out. To have a good level of solidity.
