Salernitana coach Davide Nicola tried to look for the weak points of Lazio ahead of tomorrow’s tough Serie A clash.

The Biancocelesti are hungry for their third consecutive win without star striker Ciro Immobile, something that would’ve been impossible to pull off a year ago. Maurizio Sarri’s squad have looked impressive this campaign, being solid at the back and fluid going forward, something they’ll be hoping to show again against Salernitana tomorrow.

Speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference (via LazioNews24), Nicola first discussed Salernitana’s game plan for tomorrow’s match against Lazio.

They have ability in challenges, in triangulations, in the straits, in build up. I want a Salernitana side that knows how to counter attack and pressure the man, they know how to stay deep but at the same time counter with speed.

We have to be good at constantly slipping between three and four. Tomorrow’s match will allow us to work on the details.

He spoke highly about the work of Sarri and Lazio this season, comparing them to Luciano Spalletti’s high-flying Napoli.

Lazio and Napoli are the two teams that produce the best game by alternating the rhythms of the match. They know how to prepare the action well and accelerate suddenly, with great technical precision.

It’s difficult to face Lazio, we’re certainly not discovering that today. Up front they don’t have abundance because of Immobile’s injury and they might decide to field those who have played the last few matches despite being on the pitch on Thursday.

We won’t be able to make mistakes in the interpretation of the match, I want to see a different kind of pressure and aggressiveness in our half.

I want them to press the forwards as well, Lazio will force us to do this because they raise the pressure very well, they wait for you and then counter. The defensive line has to be interpreted according to the preventive and the two phases.

Finally, Nicola highlighted some of the weak points of the Biancocelesti.

Lazio have many qualities. We’ll have to be good at making them lose compactness, acting on the various solutions of the game and trying to move quickly.

We have worked on many things. It’s challenging to face an opponent against whom we will need a high level of play. It won’t be easy, but those are good challenges to play.

Lazio secured two 3-0 wins over Salernitana in their meetings last season, results Sarri and his squad will be hoping to replicate in tomorrow’s match. Salernitana have looked a little more solid this season and currently sit comfortably in the mid-table.
