Zaccagni: ‘Lazio Angry After Salernitana Loss, De Kuip Will Be Bedlam’

Mattia Zaccagni underlined Lazio’s frustration following their loss to Salernitana and looked ahead to a tough clash against Feyenoord.

The Biancocelesti just need a positive result against the Dutch outfit to book their spot in the Round of 16 of the Europa League, but they’ll be hungry for all three points in an attempt to restore some confidence after a lethargic defeat to Salernitana on the weekend. Feyenoord will be fighting hard for a win as they dream of a spot in the knock-out stages.

Speaking in a press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Zaccagni first discussed how much he’s grown under Maurizio Sarri.

At national level I have to prove it for the whole year and maybe even longer. I have to give consistency to my performances and continue like this. The coach has given me a lot, this year I have learnt something more in the scoring phase.

He touched on if the Lazio squad felt that the Salernitana game was already won after they went ahead.

No, not won, we felt we had the game in hand. Perhaps we should have managed to score a second goal in the first 45 minutes. Unfortunately there were some moments that penalised us, made us nervous. But that must not be an excuse.

The Italian winger confirmed that the squad felt as angry as Sarri after the defeat.

Yes, we were p*ssed off, disappointed. We have little to prepare for the match, we have to make use of the training we have. So there’s little to be p*ssed off about and a lot to work on.

He spoke about his ability to find the back of the net and his Azzurri goals.

The goals I’m scoring come from so much work. I think there is time, many games, like tomorrow night, to score more goals. National team? I have nothing to say.

Finally, Zaccagni discussed what kind of match he expects against Feyenoord.

We’ll find a stadium that is bedlam, we’ve seen other games they’ve played in the Europa League. We will have to put their same intensity and a lot of quality, so we can win the game.
