Lazio vs Monza: Recent History
Lazio have been a little inconsistent following the hamstring injury to star striker Ciro Immobile. Maurizio Sarri’s side beat Atalanta and FC Midtjylland, building their confidence, but defeats to Salernitana and Feyenoord rocked the boat in Formello.
The Biancocelesti got things back on track in the derby, beating Roma 1-0, and they’ll be hoping to replicate that performance against Monza.
Monza have only won two of their last five league outings, losing the other three, but their confident 2-0 win over Hellas Verona on the weekend will give them hope of a possible upset in the Italian capital. They sit 15th in the Serie A table, six points ahead of 18th place Cremonese.
Lazio have faced Monza 18 times in the past, winning six, drawing seven and losing five. Their last meeting came in the Coppa Italia in the 2006-07 season, a match which the Biancocelesti won on penalties. Their last league meetings were in Serie B in the 1985-86 campaign.
Lazio vs Monza: Team News
Sarri has three players in doubt heading into the Monza clash – Manuel Lazzari, Mattia Zaccagni and Ciro Immobile are all dealing with various issues and could be forced to miss out on the match.
Monza cannot count on the injured Stefano Sensi and Pablo Mari, with the latter still recovering from the attack he suffered in a supermarket in the outskirts of Milan last month.
Expected Starting Lineups
Sarri is expected to tinker with his Lazio squad a little for the game, aware of the Juventus clash fast approaching on the horizon. Luis Alberto, Zaccagni and Casale all seem set to be benched in favour of Matias Vecino, Matteo Cancellieri and Patric. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic returns following his one-game suspension.
Monza aren’t expected to pull off any surprises with their squad choices in their trip to Rome, relying on trusted favourites like Nicolo Rovella and Andrea Petagna.
Lazio (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Patric, Romagnoli, Marusic; Milinkovic-Savic, Cataldi, Vecino; Pedro, Felipe Anderson, Cancellieri.
Monza (3-5-2): Di Gregorio; Izzo, Marlon, Caldirola; Birindelli, Pessina, Rovella, Colpavi, Carlos Augusto; Caprari, Petagna.
