Lazio Starlet Impresses in Italy U21 Loss to Germany U21

Matteo Cancellieri was the only bright spot for the Italy U21 squad in their 4-2 loss to Germany U21.

The 20-year-old Italian forward, who joined Lazio in the summer from Hellas Verona, came on the pitch on the hour mark and instantly hit the ground running for the Azzurrini, scoring only seven minutes after coming on to make it 3-1. Seven minutes later Cancellieri scored his brace, putting Italy U21 right back into the match at 3-2 with 20 minutes left to play.

Unfortunately for Cancellieri and Italy, they couldn’t turn around the result and Germany secured their win with an 88th minute strike from Maurice Malone.

Il Tempo (via LazioNews24) highlights the quality shown by Cancellieri in his two goals, displaying his ability and technique in front of goal. The brace could be crucial for the 20-year-old’s development and confidence in Rome.

Maurizio Sarri is a fan of Cancellieri and is hoping to see more positive signs from the 20-year-old on the pitch in the second half of the season.
