Lazio Haven’t Lost Faith in Untested Backup Goalkeeper

Although his chances at Lazio have been extremely limited, the club have no intention of giving up on Luis Maximiano just yet.

The Biancocelesti signed the 23-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper from Granada in the summer in a deal worth around €10m, expecting him to be their first choice option between the posts. Maximiano started the season opener against Bologna but was sent off after just six minutes, giving him the worst possible start to life with Lazio.

As highlighted by LazioNews24, that six-minute cameo against Bologna has been Luis Maximiano’s only chance with Lazio this season. Maurizio Sarri has placed his trust in Ivan Provedel, who joined from Spezia for €2m in the summer, and the Italian goalkeeper has not disappointed.

Maximiano didn’t even receive a minute of action in the Europa League, but Sarri does plan to deploy the 23-year-old in the Coppa Italia, which kicks off in January.

Despite his slow start to life in the Italian capital, Lazio have no intention of selling Maximiano or sending him out on loan in the January transfer window.
