Lazio pair Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Matias Vecino have returned to Rome after being eliminated from the World Cup in Qatar.

The duo were the only two Biancocelesti players to compete in the tournament and both were knocked out upon the conclusion of the group stages. Serbia finished bottom of Group G following their defeat to Switzerland in their final game and Uruguay finished third in Group H after dropping points to South Korea and Portugal.

Il Messaggero (via TMW) reports that both Milinkovic-Savic and Vecino have now returned to Rome following their World Cup adventure and will return to Lazio training next week, allowing them to start preparations for the second half of the season.

The Biancocelesti are planning to head off to Turkey later this month for a short training retreat, where they’ll play friendlies against Galatasaray and another unannounced team.

Lazio’s first game of 2023 is against Lecce on January 4, a game Maurizio Sarri and his squad will be keen to win to kickstart their new year in the perfect fashion.
