Lazio talent Luka Romero has continued to show his potential under Maurizio Sarri this season but could miss a month of action in the new year.

The 18-year-old Argentinian forward is progressing well in the Italian capital and has continued to receive some minutes under Sarri, playing 158 minutes with the first team across six appearances.

Luka Romero scored his debut goal for Lazio in their 1-0 win over Monza last month and is gearing up to sign a new long-term contract in Rome.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio may have to do without Luka Romero from 19th January to 12th February due to the South American Under-20 Championship.

The Argentinian teenager has already made two appearances for Javier Mascherano’s U-20 side and could be called up for the upcoming tournament.

Because it’s not an official FIFA tournament, Luka Romero is not obliged to answer the call-up, but likely would regardless.

A similar issue could arrive at the end of the season, with the U-20 World Cup kicking off on 20th May.
