Luka Romero on His All-Time World Cup XI & Goals With Lazio

Lazio youngster Luka Romero revealed his top World Cup starting 11 and his goals for Lazio in the coming years.

The 18-year-old Argentinian forward has continued to show off his potential in the Italian capital this season under Maurizio Sarri and looks set to be a star in the future. Lazio are desperate to tie down Luka Romero to a new contract and talks between the two parties are moving forward positively.

Speaking to Lazio’s media outlets (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Luka Romero first discussed his all-time top World Cup starting 11.

The first World Cup I remember is the 2010 World Cup, when Spain won. The 2014 World Cup went badly for Argentina. We had a good World Cup, but we lost the final.

My top 11 is Casillas who had a good World Cup in 2010 and made the save for Robben. Right fullback I’d put Dani Alves, centre backs Puyol and Van Dijk. Left fullback Lahm. In midfield I’d put Mascherano, Iniesta and Modric, who in 2018 had a good World Cup.

Then Messi, Forlan, who in 2010 scored a lot of goals in the World Cup and then Mbappé, who is also having a good World Cup this year.

For the coach Del Bosque, I like him a lot. The player I could never give up is Messi, he will be in my team forever. There are many players I could put in and I like, like Di Maria, Robben or Villa.

The best match? It was in 2014, the final between Argentina and Germany. I was hurt by it.

He touched on his goals for the coming years with Lazio and the team’s mid-season training retreat in Turkey.

I must do many things, there are still three years left. Now I’m at Lazio, I’m thinking about doing well here and after that you have to see.

The retreat is important, we play two games, and we have to play them well to arrive in top form in January when the season starts again.

Finally, Luka Romero discussed which players inspire him.

For me, I liked Mertens a lot, I also like Insigne a lot for how he plays. I am inspired by him.

The 18-year-old Luka Romero has made six appearances across Serie A and the Europa League this season, for a total of 158 minutes. In that time, he scored his debut goal for the club in their 1-0 win over Monza.
