Gonzalo Escalante, who is currently on loan at Cremonese from Lazio, could return to Spain after a tough six months in Lombardy.
The 29-year-old Argentinian midfielder joined the newly promoted side in the summer, signing a one-year loan deal with a €6 million buy option attached.
Things initially started well, despite a red card on his debut, but since the start of October Escalante has only received limited chances Massimiliano Alvini, starting once in Serie A since September.
As reported by ElGolDigital (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), La Liga outfit Almeria have been keeping a close eye on Escalante for a while now and may look to make a move for the 29-year-old in January, interested in a loan deal with a buy option attached.
Coach Rubi believes the Argentinian midfielder would be a useful addition to the squad and a deal seems fairly accessible, with Lazio keen to shift the former Eibar man.
Escalante is still contracted to Lazio until 2024 and the club are hoping to find a permanent home for the 29-year-old in the coming months, allowing them to make a small capital gain.
