Lazio Hearts Broken as Empoli Snatch Point With Last Minute Leveller

Lazio dropped two points in cruel fashion after conceding two Empoli goals in the final 10 minutes of the match.

The Biancocelesti came into the match hungry to bounce back after their miserable 2-1 loss to Lecce on Wednesday, and early signs were promising at the Stadio Olimpico.

Felipe Anderson managed to put Lazio ahead after less than 90 seconds after heading home a Luis Alberto corner, giving the home side an early advantage. Maurizio Sarri’s side maintained control for the remainder of the first half, taking 11 shots total compared to Empoli’s zero, and the wind seemed to be behind the Roman outfit.

Mattia Zaccagni doubled the Biancocelesti’s lead in the 54th minute from only six yards out after a beautiful assist from Felipe Anderson, who deftly wriggled into the box before laying off a perfectly weighted pass to the Italian winger.

The second half continued to flow in the favour of Lazio, although Empoli were starting to push as the match drew on. Their efforts were rewarded in the 84th minute, when a quick counter-attack was finished off by Francesco Caputo, clawing one back for the away side.

This gave Empoli belief as the match started to enter it’s final stages. In the dying seconds of the match, with only a minute on the clock, a piece of poor defending allowed Razvan Marin to take an uncontested shot from outside the box, which he carefully placed in the top corner of Ivan Provedel’s net, drawing the Tuscans level.

It was a bitter end to an otherwise decent performance for Lazio, who will be feeling dejected after picking up just one point from two tiring outings.
