Sarri: ‘Now I Understand How It Feels to Be With Lazio’

Maurizio Sarri underlined his happiness at Lazio and what still needs to be done at the club’s celebratory dinner.

The Biancocelesti squad and staff were celebrating the 123rd anniversary of the club’s foundation, sharing a relaxed dinner and party together. It was a positive and much needed evening for the players, who’ll undoubtedly be frustrated after picking up just one point from their first two outings of 2023.

Speaking at the event (via LazioNews24), Sarri first discussed his happiness at Lazio and the club’s storied history.

Lazio have been here for 123 years and I hope they stay here for another thousand. I am immersed in Lazio, I feel great.

I’m sorry that this evening comes after an evening of suffering, but I see them training every day and I have no great worries. They will give satisfaction to the club and to me. I’m sure.

He commented on his understanding of the ‘Lazialità’ feeling.

This is a particular team. From the outside you can’t imagine it. The Lazialità if it enters you stays with you.

Now I understand what Gregucci said about Lazialità, I was struggling to understand it, now I understand very well. This is a squad that has generosity, trains well, gives you satisfaction.

The 63-year-old Italian coach spoke about what was still missing from the team.

We have the problem of fulfilment, unfortunately this lack is something that does not depend on the will of the boys. I put my hand on it. If we overcome this limitation and extend the minutes we play at this level we can have our say with everyone.

Finally, Sarri discussed his relationship with president Claudio Lotito.

Rarely does Lotito feel like a president, very often you feel like you’re having dinner with a friend. That makes you feel good, and I feel strong motivation. I need this.

It’s been a tough start to the year for Lazio, who have dropped points from winning positions in both of their games. The team went 1-0 up over Lecce before conceding two second half strikes, and in the clash with Empoli they blew a 2-0 lead.
