Lazio showed their character in a resilient 2-0 win over Sassuolo, finally returning to winning ways after a slow start to 2023.
The Biancocelesti dropped points from winning positions in both of their opening games of the year, losing to Lecce and drawing Empoli, leaving Maurizio Sarri frustrated and keen to see a response. Lazio delivered at the Mapei Stadium, edging out a 2-0 win over the struggling hosts, who are now dangerously close to the relegation zone.
A penalty from Mattia Zaccagni in the first half and a calm shot from Felipe Anderson in the dying minutes of the match secured all three points for Lazio, who have now restored some confidence ahead of their Coppa Italia clash with Bologna.
The only disappointing moment of the afternoon came in the 15th minute of the match, when talismanic striker Ciro Immobile was forced off the pitch with a concerning thigh injury.
