Lazio Move On in Coppa Italia After Win Over Bologna

Lazio booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia with a controlled 1-0 win over Thiago Motta’s Bologna.

The Biancocelesti bounced back from their slow start to 2023 with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Sassuolo, giving them confidence heading into their first Coppa Italia outing of the campaign. Maurizio Sarri has been desperate for his team to build some mental consistency and will be pleased after the victory over the Rossoblu.

Lazio held control throughout their clash with Bologna and found a 1-0 lead after 33 minutes following a poor bit of defending, which allowed Pedro to snatch the ball and play it across the penalty area to Felipe Anderson, who cleanly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

The home side remained in the driving seat for the second half and almost doubled their advantage coming out of the break, when a Sergej Milinkovic-Savic header just went over the crossbar.

Sarri’s side were hardly threatened throughout the 90 minutes and it was a mature victory for the team, who’ll now be hoping to build up some consistency ahead of their next game against Milan on 24th January.

Lazio will face Juventus in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on 2nd February at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
