Lazio showed both their qualities and maturity in a confident 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Thiago Motta’s Bologna.
The Biancocelesti were hungry to kick off their cup campaign on the front foot after a disappointing start to 2023, which saw them drop points from winning positions against Lecce and Empoli. Maurizio Sarri’s side did respond with a 2-0 win over Sassuolo on the weekend and they’ve seemingly carried this momentum forward.
Lazio dictated the tempo of proceedings at the Stadio Olimpico, limiting Bologna’s chances and leaving them penned in their defensive third. The difference maker was Felipe Anderson, who scored after 33 minutes to put his team into the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia, where they’ll face Juventus.
It was an important performance and result for Lazio, who’ll be without talismanic striker Ciro Immobile for a few weeks following a recent hamstring issue.
