Federico Pastorello, the agent of Lazio loanee Francesco Acerbi, confirmed that Inter want to sign the Italian defender on a permanent basis.

The 34-year-old suffered a complete relationship breakdown with the Biancocelesti supporters last season and left for the Lombardy capital in September 2022, joining on a loan deal with a €3.5m buy option attached.

Acerbi was reunited with former Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi and has played an important backup role for Inter this season, making 19 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking to Rai Sport (via LazioNews24), Pastorello discussed his client Acerbi’s future and Inter’s desire to sign the 34-year-old.

The negotiation to bring him to Milan was very long and difficult, fortunately we concluded it.

The club has already told us that their intention would be to keep him, although under certain economic conditions.

An agreement will have to be found. We know how Lotito is, but he’s a businessman and I’m convinced that with calm and the right reasons we’ll succeed.

Acerbi previously spent four years with Lazio from 2018 to 2022, briefly becoming a much appreciated figure by the fans before his issues last season. During his time in Rome, the Italian defender scored 10 goals and provided seven assists across 173 appearances.

The 34-year-old struggled to adapt to Maurizio Sarri’s system in the Italian capital and upset the fans after doing a ‘shh’ celebration to silence their criticism.
