Lazio have long had their eye on Hellas Verona talent Ivan Ilic but now look set to miss out as Olympique Marseille work to secure the Serbian midfielder.
Coach Maurizio Sarri is a fan of the 21-year-old and seemingly considers him to be the long-term replacement for Luis Alberto, who is endlessly linked with a return to Spain.
Lazio have been unwilling to make a move for Ilic until selling the 30-year-old Spaniard, allowing other clubs to swoop in for the Serb.
As reported by TMW, Olympique Marseille have submitted a new offer to Hellas Verona for Ilic, looking to be out Torino, who are also in the running. The French outfit have also prepared a deal worth around €1.6m net per season plus add-ons for the 21-year-old.
The ball is now in Ilic’s court and he’s taking some time to consider his options, with less than a week left in the January transfer window.
