Alessandro Monfrecola, the agent of new Lazio signing Diego Gonzalez, explained the qualities of his client and expressed the 20-year-old’s excitement with the move to Rome.
The Biancocelesti signed the talented 20-year-old Paraguayan winger from Mexican side Celaya on a six-month loan deal with a conditional obligation to buy clause attached.
President Claudio Lotito was personally recommended the player and was impressed with what he saw, both in terms of his on-pitch qualities and hardworking character.
Speaking to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Monfrecola first discussed what kind of player Gonzalez is and where he could fit in the Lazio squad.
He can play as a centre forward, but also a second striker. He has excellent technique, he shoots well with his left and right. He can do important things, but he has to adapt.
He can improve a lot being with Sarri, he is one of the best prospects currently in the South American championship with Paraguay. He has a lot of room for improvement and with a maestro like Sarri he can do it without a doubt, reaching important goals.
He has a great personality despite being very young, physically he is doing well. He is putting himself in the limelight. He’s never played with anyone his age, that’s a good thing.
Winning a title in the Mexican second tier, coming first in the normal phase that precedes the playoffs, means playing on fiery pitches and at this age playing a decisive role in a team that aims to win means that you are not afraid of anything.
He has hunger and nastiness, a bit like Luka Romero. I think they will bond, you can see they have the desire to emerge.
The agent reflected on the deal that brought the 20-year-old Paraguayan winger to Rome.
All the staff and the president were impressed by the boy, the economic conditions allowed the transfer and so he was signed.
I think he was spotted in this league, where there are real Latin American prospects because beating teams like Argentina in the final phase is not for everyone.
Monfrecola commented on how Lazio plan to use Gonzalez.
The club has specifically requested that he be attached to the first team, it’s understood that he will train with the big boys and then the coach will decide whether or not to play him. Of course, he is also willing to play with his peers.
Finally, Monfrecola discussed how he told Gonzalez of Lazio’s interest and how the player reacted.
I kept it from him out of superstition. He found out yesterday just before taking to the pitch for the match against Venezuela, during the tactical meeting.
As soon as he found out he was asked to come out of the room and sign, he didn’t hesitate for a second.
Lazio is a dream for him, he knows it and is honoured to be part of the first team of the capital. He said it himself! He wanted to play in the Italian league, he’s delighted.
The 20-year-old Gonzalez made 33 appearances for Mexican side Celaya, scoring five goals and showing his potential.
