Sarri Wanted Napoli’s Giuntoli to Replace Tare at Lazio

Maurizio Sarri and Igli Tare do not see eye to eye at Lazio and the coach wanted Napoli’s Cristiano Giuntoli to be brought in as a replacement last year, reports suggest.

The Italian coach and the Albanian sporting director have clashed on a number of occasions this season, with the former unhappy with the quality of the reinforcements being brought in and the latter frustrated at the suggestion that the team aren’t strong enough to qualify for the Champions League.

As reported by Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), last year Sarri proposed the idea of Lazio replacing Tare with Giuntoli, who has continued to impress as Napoli’s sporting director, making smart signings like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Kim Min-Jae and Giacomo Raspadori.

Less than six months remain on Tare’s current contract with the Biancocelesti but he’s on track for a new three-year deal, although Sarri will have to also give his approval. The pair disagree about the types of players that should be signed and this could prove problematic in the summer transfer window.
