Napoli vs Lazio: Recent History

It’s hard to describe Napoli’s season under Luciano Spalletti without using superlatives. The Partenopei have been on fire this season, flying to the top of the Serie A table to take an 18-point lead after 24 games.

Spalletti’s side have been equally impressive in the Champions League and already have one foot in the quarter-finals, giving them every right of being in the conversation for this season’s European champions.

Lazio have started to recover after another bout of inconsistency and won their last two league outings against Salernitana and Sampdoria, putting them fourth in the table. An upset over the league leaders would do wonders for the team’s Champions League aspirations.

In their first meeting this season, Lazio fell in a difficult 2-1 loss to Napoli, when Mattia Zaccagni’s early opener was made void by Kim Min-Jae and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Napoli vs Lazio: Team News

Napoli cannot count on the suspended Mario Rui and the injured Giacomo Raspadori. Kim is only one yellow card away from a one-game suspension, so he could play more conversative than usual.

Lazio’s only doubt is winger Pedro, who is suffering from both a nose and hand fractures. Nicolo Casale is suspended and three players are a booking away from a one-match ban: Adam Marusic, Danilo Cataldi and Matias Vecino.

Expected Starting Lineups

The league leaders are expected to count on all their usual stars as they look to take one step closer to the Scudetto, deploying Victor Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia, Stanislav Lobotka and Kim. Eljif Elmas could start over Piotr Zielinski in the midfield.

Alessio Romagnoli will return for Lazio in the defence, partnering Patric. Manuel Lazzari will be left on the bench in favour of Adam Marusic, leaving Elseid Hysaj on the left of the backline. The usual midfield three will start behind a forward line of Zaccagni, Ciro Immobile and Felipe Anderson.

Napoli (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Kim, Olivera; Zambo Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski; Lozano, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia.

Lazio (4-3-3): Provedel; Marusic, Patric, Romagnoli, Hysaj; Milinkovic-Savic, Cataldi, Luis Alberto; Felipe Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni.
