Ivan Provedel reportedly could have ended up at Napoli last summer before he ultimately signed a five-year contract with Lazio.
The Biancocelesti were active in the goalkeeper market in the summer after losing both Thomas Strakosha and Pepe Reina on free transfers.
Lazio invested €10.1 million in Luis Maximiano but the cheaper Provedel quickly stole the starting spot, proving himself one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the league.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Napoli were also big fans of Provedel and were keen to pick him up last summer, believing him to be the perfect replacement for Alex Meret, who was on the verge of joining Spezia.
The Partenopei initially wanted then-Paris Saint-Germain shot stopper Keylor Navas but the deal proved too complicated, so they turned their attention to Provedel instead, but failed to iron out a deal for the 28-year-old.
Provedel eventually joined Lazio in August of last year, penning a five-year contract following a €2m move from Spezia.
