Vecino Proves Himself a Key Member of Sarri’s Lazio Squad

Matias Vecino was the difference maker in Lazio’s sensational win over Napoli and is showing why he deserves to stay a regular in the Italian capital.

The 31-year-old Uruguayan midfielder joined the Biancocelesti on a free transfer last summer, penning a three-year contract with the club.

Since his arrival, Vecino has featured regularly in the midfield, alternating with Luis Alberto to give a different edge to the three-man unit in the centre of the pitch.

As highlighted by Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Vecino was the standout player for Lazio in the 1-0 win over Napoli, and not just because of his wonderful goal to put the team ahead.

The Uruguayan midfielder completed 36 passes, six of which were in the final third, made four recoveries and five clearances, showing his importance both offensively and defensively.

Considering the lack of minutes he received in his final season with Inter, Vecino’s work in Rome is very impressive and the player deserves to remain a regular in Maurizio Sarri’s squad for the near-future.
