Lazio put on a mature and controlled display in their tense Derby della Capitale win over inter-city rivals Roma.
The Biancocelesti secured a 1-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to Mattia Zaccagni’s 65th minute strike, being let off the hook after a VAR check ruled out Nicolo Casale’s own goal for an offside in the build-up.
The win was worth more than just three points to Lazio as they fight for a top four finish, with Roma hot on the heels of the Champions League hopefuls. The result puts Maurizio Sarri’s side second, five points clear of fifth.
After a few weeks of misery, the Biancocelesti showed their best in the Derby della Capitale, with players like Ivan Provedel, Luis Alberto and Mattia Zaccagni all playing a central role in the victory.
The performance also showed that Lazio can afford to be without talismanic striker Ciro Immobile, who missed out through injury.
