Sarri Has One Concern as Lazio Fight for Retegui

Lazio have entered the race to sign Tigre talent Mateo Retegui but one aspect concerns Maurizio Sarri ahead of the summer.

The 23-year-old Argentine-born striker shot to prominence after being handed a surprise call-up by Roberto Mancini for this international break, starting in both of Italy’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against England and Malta.

Retegui has become one of the hottest topics in Italy after scoring in both of his Azzurri games, possibly being the answer to the team’s issues with a consistent goalscorer, something Ciro Immobile unfortunately failed to be for his country.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio are facing strong competition for Retegui, namely from Inter and Milan, but still want to pick up the 23-year-old in the summer, even if one aspect of the deal concerns Sarri.

The Italian coach is unsure if it’s better to consider Retegui a backup for talismanic striker Immobile or a possible replacement, something that would not go down well with the supporters.

Immobile has been a core figure at Lazio since his arrival in 2016 but injuries have seriously disrupted his season and there are some fears that these problems could only get worse with time.
