Lazio are planning to cut their losses on Luis Maximiano in the summer and are considering replacing him with Emil Audero.
The 24-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper cost the Biancocelesti around €10m last summer but had a disastrous start to his time in Rome, being shown a red card just six minutes into his debut.
Ivan Provedel took on the starting role after this, leaving Maximiano relegated to the bench for the rest of this Serie A season. Maurizio Sarri gave him some chances in the Europa Conference League and the Coppa Italia, but he failed to look particularly impressive.
As reported by Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Lazio are looking to sell Maximiano in the summer and have identified Sampdoria’s Audero as a strong replacement.
The 26-year-old Italian has been quietly impressing with the Blucerchiati for a while now and their probable relegation means he could be signed for cheap in the summer.
Talks have already been opened for Audero, who could now become the new backup for Provedel.
