Inter May Beat Lazio to Tigre Striker Retegui

Lazio are seriously interested in making a move for Tigre striker Mateo Retegui in the summer but could miss out as Inter prepare to take a step forward.

The 23-year-old Argentine-born striker shot to prominence in Italy after being handed a call-up by Roberto Mancini to the Azzurri squad, making his debut in a Euro 2024 qualifier against England.

Retegui impressed in both of his matches for Italy, scoring against the Three Lions and Malta, and has attracted the attention of a number of Serie A clubs, setting up an exciting summer for the 23-year-old.

As detailed by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio have been keen to pick up Retegui since December but may fail to secure his signature as Inter’s interest heats up.

The Nerazzurri are preparing to lose Romelu Lukaku in the summer and could also sell Joaquin Correa, leaving them with a gaping hole in their frontline. Retegui is their preferred replacement and they’re now working to beat out their competition for the 23-year-old.

Tigre value the Argentine-Italian at around €15 million. Lazio may have to look elsewhere for a new striker, despite Claudio Lotito’s appreciation of the new Azzurri forward.
