Sarri’s Juventus Warning to Lazio Could Come True

Maurizio Sarri had warned Lazio about Juventus ahead of their meeting earlier this month and his fears could be realised now.

The Biancocelesti edged out a vital 2-1 win over the Bianconeri back on 8th April, with goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Mattia Zaccagni securing all three points for a Champions League hungry Lazio.

Sarri’s side now sit comfortably second in the Serie A table with 61 points, five ahead of third place Roma, but their top four hopes could get significantly more complicated.

As detailed by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Sarri warned his Lazio squad ahead of the clash with Juventus that they had to win in order to maintain a small lead over the Old Lady, aware that their 15-point deduction might be annulled.

CONI’s Collegio di Garanzia did not give a definitive answer to Juventus’ appeal against this penalty and a new trial could be set up, which means their 15-point deduction is no longer a particular certainty.

Should Juventus recover these 15 points, they’d fly up to third in the Serie A table, just two points behind Lazio, which is why Sarri was clear that victory was of the upmost importance in that match.
