Marcos Antonio: ‘I Made the Right Choice Joining Lazio’

Marcos Antonio reflected on his first year with Lazio, his debut goal for the club and the team’s fight for Champions League qualification.

The 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder joined the Biancocelesti from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer in a deal worth around €7.5 million, a low price for a talented player with tonnes of potential.

Marcos Antonio’s first year with Lazio has been relatively quiet, with Maurizio Sarri allowing him to settle in and grow into a strong option off the bench. Talented with the ball at his feet, the 22-year-old has only seen 527 minutes of action across 19 appearances this season.

Speaking to Globo Esporte (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Marcos Antonio first looked back at his debut season with Lazio.

I made the right choice. Everything in our life is a process, just like our professional life. I know respect and I also know that everything will happen naturally for my sake.

I am young, I have many good things to do in my career and I hope Lazio will be part of it.

We always have expectations to play, but I joined a new team with great players, I understand that this is part of the process of adapting to a new style of play. I hope to have more opportunities.

The 22-year-old midfielder then reflected on his debut goal for the Biancocelesti, an incredible solo effort in the 3-0 win over Spezia.

It was very important, because I came on with 10 minutes left, I scored, I didn’t miss a pass and I was able to help the team.

It was an indescribable emotion, a magical moment in my career to score a goal in Serie A with Lazio.

Finally, Marcos Antonio discussed Lazio’s fight for a top four finish this season.

We are a great team, with very clear and defined objectives. We will fight until the last minute for the best possible position. We respect all our rivals, but we won’t give up until the last day.
