Reports in Portugal suggest that Lazio are close to reaching a deal with soon-to-be free agent Mateus Uribe.
The Biancocelesti are looking to strengthen their midfield in the summer, aware that Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is keen to be sold. With Maurizio Sarri’s side close to securing a top four finish, the extra resources from the Champions League would allow the team to spend a little more heavily.
One player they’ve been consistently linked with for weeks now is Uribe, whose contract expires with Porto at the end of the season. Recent reports in Italy claimed that Sarri had asked the club to stop talks with the 32-year-old until it was clearer which midfielders would leave and which would stay in the summer.
As reported by Portuguese newspaper Record (via LazioNews24), talks between Uribe and Lazio are at an advanced stage and the club are close to matching his €3 million net per season demands, although they aren’t willing to pay the full amount.
The 32-year-old would like to stay in Europe, and so has declined an offer from the interested Flamengo. Other European teams, like Atletico Madrid, have also been linked with the Colombian midfielder.
