Sergej Milinkovic-Savic opened up about the differences at Lazio between Simone Inzaghi and Maurizio Sarri, discussing his preferences and happiness at the club.
The Serbian midfielder is expected to end his seven-year stay with the Biancocelesti at the end of this season, keen to try out a new adventure at the peak of his career. His agent Mateja Kezman is currently working on collecting offers to present to the club in the summer.
Milinkovic-Savic has been one of the best midfielders in Italy for a number of years now, being a key figure in the Lazio squad and helping them fight for important objectives, like the Coppa Italia or fight for Champions League qualification.
Speaking to DAZN (via TMW), Milinkovic-Savic first discussed his relationship with coach Sarri.
I enjoy it because we always have the ball. With Sarri this is the second year, in the first we had some difficulties but now we’re used to it, we’ve started to have fun.
Sarri makes us run a lot, but if you don’t run you can’t play this sport. You run to catch it, but we have to hold on to it a bit more.
He was asked about Sarri’s predecessor Inzaghi, who left to join Inter in the summer of 2021.
He plays different football to Sarri, starting with the formation. With Inzaghi we played with a 3-5-2, now we play with a 4-3-3.
With Simone, we often played with the ball high up, here we play low to the ground. Now the performance that Sarri expected from us has finally come out.
The game with the two formations changes a lot because with the 3-5-2 you always know where to give it, you have more players around you. With the 4-3-3 you run more, I like the 3-5-2 more.
Milinkovic-Savic commented on his relationship with Lazio captain Ciro Immobile.
With Immobile we understand each other well. I always know where he is, even when I don’t see him, I feel him. He knows what I can give him and in fact that shows in the assists I’ve given him. He always knows he has me around.
We like playing forward, he’s always there, he attacks the depth. Without him there’s Felipe, he likes to come forward, sometimes he exaggerates but the important thing is that he scores at least one goal per game.
He doesn’t like to play as a forward, he comes towards us. We have more fun with him.
He touched on his happiness at the Biancocelesti.
I’m happy here, I’ve been here for eight years, and I enjoy every day. Lately I don’t go to the city so much, but I enjoy it every day.
Finally, Milinkovic-Savic discussed his relationship with the Lazio fans.
The Lazio fans have always been there for me, even in difficult times. I can only have good words for them.
