Immobile: ‘Lazio Are Tired, Exhausting to Fight in Top Four Race’

Lazio captain Ciro Immobile opened up about the difficulties of the top four race and gave his thoughts on the Champions League this season.

The Biancocelesti were in a run of strong form but things have changed in recent weeks and the team have only won one of their last five league outings, keeping them in the thick of a top four race.

Lazio currently sit fourth in the Serie A table with 65 points, four ahead of Milan and one behind Inter. Maurizio Sarri’s side are fortunate that the Rossoneri are also seemingly slowing down in the final stages of this campaign.

Speaking at the Ussi event at the Stadio Olimpico (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Immobile first spoke honestly about Lazio’s fight for a top four finish this season.

Lazio are tired because it’s exhausting to fight against strong teams that try to steal our place. We have to work hard, in the last game we dropped points, but there’s not long left to go.

He then spoke about the upcoming Champions League semi-finals and which team could lift the trophy.

I hope an Italian team, I’m bound to Inzaghi as a person and coach, I would be happy for him. Even in the Europa League there could be an all-Italian final. Lately people have been saying that Italy is behind in football, but it’s not true.

I was listening to Bernardo Silva’s interview, this difference between leagues can’t be there, it means one doesn’t understand football.

You have to play the leagues, it’s true that some have more economic possibilities like the Premier League, but we are also doing well this year.

Lazio’s final three games of the season are against Udinese on 21st May, Cremonese on 28th May and Empoli on 4th June.
