Maurizio Sarri is hoping that Lazio will replace sporting director Igli Tare with Empoli’s Pietro Accardi, local reports suggest.

The 49-year-old Albanian director’s current contract with the Biancocelesti expires at the end of next month and a renewal doesn’t seem likely, with Sarri unhappy with his work and Claudio Lotito seemingly unconvinced about his capabilities to lead the growing project in Rome.

The Lazio coach has never seen eye to eye with Tare and the sporting director’s work in recent years has failed to impress, with investments made on players like Vedat Muriqi and Denis Vavro failing to pay off.

As reported by La Nazione (via LazioNews24), with Tare expected to leave Lazio next month, Sarri is pushing the club to hire Empoli sporting director Accardi to replace him. Napoli are also keen on the former defender.

The 40-year-old Italian has impressed with the Tuscan outfit, having been in the role since 2016. He has helped them pick up players like Guglielmo Vicario, Fabiano Parisi and even Ivan Provedel back in 2017.
