Lazio Drawing up New Contract for Luis Alberto

Lazio do not want to lose star midfielder Luis Alberto this summer and have started defining the terms of a new contract with the Spaniard.

The 30-year-old initially struggled to adapt to Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 system in the Italian capital and the pair didn’t see eye to eye last season, but things have been different this campaign and the midfielder has again proven himself to be one of the stars of the show.

This season, Luis Alberto has scored five goals and provided six assists in 33 Serie A appearances under Sarri, who has made it clear that he doesn’t want the Spaniard to leave at the end of this season.

As reported by Alfredo Pedulla, Lazio president Claudio Lotito sat down with Luis Alberto and his entourage recently to define the terms of a new long-term contract.

The current idea is to extend his stay until 2027 or 2028 and raise his salary to around €2.5 million net per season plus add-ons, reflecting his importance to the team and Sarri.
