Berardi to Join Lazio’s Champions League Journey?

After an incredible season in Serie A, Lazio can now look forward to taking on Europe’s best next season in the Champions League. Maurizio Sarri’s team have over performed all season, but deserve to take their chance in Europe’s elite club competition in 2023/24.

Despite a stellar season, the work now starts on improving the squad to a new level. A little threadbare in places, the club will need significant investment this summer, with Sarri stating that he needs at least seven signings.

One of these potential signings is Sassuolo star, Domenico Berardi. Could the 28-year-old be about to make a move to the capital and what would he bring to the Biancocelesti?

Berardi’s Brilliance

Berardi has been a one-club man since bursting onto the scene, but at the age of 28, now could be the time for him to look for pastures new. Lazio, who started last season as 50/1 outsiders in the football betting odds, could be an ideal place for Berardi to move to next.

Sarri has done an incredible job this season and seems to be able to get the best out of footballers who are supposedly entering the latter stages of their careers. Pedro and Immobile are proof of this, and the performances of Felipe Anderson show that the charismatic boss can rejuvenate careers that may be going by the wayside.

Saying that, Berardi’s career is still very much on track, and he is arguably in his prime at 28. Capped 25 times by Italy, he has been the main reason that Sassuolo continue to perform above expectations, and he would surely only get even better with a higher class of player beside him on the pitch.

Berardi’s Playing Style

Berardi is a player who gets fans off their seats. A dynamic forward who enjoys playing on the right-hand side, he also likes to drift into a central area to try his luck with some long-range shots. Berardi is a very creative player who has a keen eye for a through ball, something that has led to him registering an amazing 45 assists in the past five years alone.

Where the Sassuolo legend really excels, however, is in his finishing and goal-scoring prowess. Despite having an interrupted season, Berardi has still managed 11 goals in 2022/23, making it an incredible 65 goals in the last five seasons.

That makes it 110 goal involvements in five seasons, quite a return for a player in a team like Sassuolo. Yes, his tally is helped by being the regular penalty taker at his club, but he has also managed some spectacular goals throughout the years in Serie A.

Would Berardi Fit in at Lazio?

Well, the answer to this is a resounding yes. Berardi has the skills which could see him play for a host of top European clubs, but he would likely slot into this Lazio team with ease. His assist record, coupled with Ciro Immobile’s goal-scoring brilliance, would bring the house down at the Stadio Olimpico.
