Empoli vs Lazio: Recent History

Empoli have looked strong in the final stages of the 2022-23 season, remaining undefeated in their last five consecutive league games. In that time, the Azzurri have picked up wins over Juventus, Salernitana and Bologna, putting them 14th in the Serie A table.

The on-going Under-20 World Cup leaves the Tuscany outfit without talents like Tommaso Baldanzi, Duccio Degli Innocenti and Gabriele Guarino.

Lazio have now secured qualification to the Champions League and are hoping to secure a second place finish in Serie A. Maurizio Sarri’s side sit just two points ahead of Inter, so a win would guarantee this whilst a draw would leave the ball in the Nerazzurri’s court.

The Biancocelesti have managed to shake off the inconsistency that emerged at the end of April and have only lost once in their last five games, winning their last two outings against Cremonese and Udinese.

The last time these two teams met, Empoli held Lazio to a 2-2 draw at the Stadio Olimpico back in January.

Empoli vs Lazio: Team News

Empoli cannot count on the injured Koni De Winter, Tyronne Ebuhei, Razvan Marin and Sebastian Walukiewicz. Baldanzi, Degli Innocenti and Guarino are all away on international duty.

Lazio’s only absence is Adam Marusic, who is recovering from a hernia. Luka Romero is unavailable due to the ongoing U-20 World Cup.

Expected Starting Lineups

Sarri will continue relying on his usual stalwarts for the final game of the 2022-23 season, with regular features like Ciro Immobile, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Alessio Romagnoli all set to start.

Matias Vecino will likely start over the recently recovered Danilo Cataldi in the midfield, and Luca Pellegrini could start in place of Manuel Lazzari.

Empoli (4-3-1-2): Vicario; Stojanovic, Ismajli, Luperto, Parisi; Akpa-Akpro, Grassi, Bandinelli; Henderson; Caputo, Cambiaghi.

Lazio (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Casale, Romagnoli, Hysaj; Milinkovic-Savic, Vecino, Luis Alberto; Felipe Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni.
