Lazio a Step Away From Selling Escalante to Cadiz

Lazio are expected to sell midfielder Gonzalo Escalante to Cadiz in the coming weeks following a successful loan spell.

The 30-year-old Argentinian midfielder, who never managed to convince Maurizio Sarri in Rome, joined the Spanish outfit on a six-month loan deal back in January, giving him the chance to feature more regularly following a disappointing loan spell with Cremonese.

Escalante did well in Spain. The midfielder scored four goals and provided one assist in 14 games, helping the side avoid relegation with his crucial goal contributions against Celta Vigo and Elche in the final two matches of the season.

As reported by La Lazio Siamo Noi, Lazio are now expected to sell Escalante to Cadiz in the coming weeks, based off the conditions agreed back in January.

The first of these was linked to the Spanish side’s survival in La Liga, which was achieved, and the second was related to appearances – reportedly at least 50% of games with at least 45 minutes on the pitch.

The deal will likely bring in around €5 million to Lazio, closing Escalante’s chapter with the club and allowing them to start planning ahead for their midfield reinforcements.

  1. He is a good lad but it just didn’t work out with us. Maybe the Spanish league is better for him coz he didn’t excel at Cremonese either in Italy.

Good luck in the future Gonzalo, I wish you well.
