Salernitana Emerge for Outbound Lazio Midfielder Marcos Antonio

Lazio are working on finding a new home for unneeded midfielder Marcos Antonio and Salernitana have emerged to register their interest.

The 23-year-old Brazilian midfielder joined the Biancocelesti last summer from Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal worth around €7.5m, adding a talented and technical option to Maurizio Sarri’s midfield.

Marcos Antonio struggled for consistent playing time in his debut season with Lazio, seeing just 589 minutes of action across 16 Serie A matches, where he scored one goal and provided one assist. Clearly talented, the 23-year-old’s physicality and defensive weaknesses limited his effectiveness.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio are hoping to sell Marcos Antonio this summer in order to make space in the squad for new reinforcements. He would like to join Flamengo, but in recent days Salernitana have registered their interest in him.

Paulo Sousa’s side have secured their spot in Serie A for next season and are hoping to add the right elements to allow them to start climbing up the rankings.

  1. I honestly think that he is unlucky but in the same time maybe one year adaptation wasn’t enough for him and he will do well next season. Salernitana would get a bargain if they land him.
