Pablo Bentancur, the agent of Lucas Torreira, confirmed Lazio’s interest in the Galatasaray midfielder and spoke about an upcoming meeting.
The Biancocelesti are working to add four or five new players to Maurizio Sarri’s squad this summer and one role that needs filling is a new regista, able to rotate or play alongside Danilo Cataldi.
Lazio have considered a number of options for this, including Sarri favourite Jorginho, but recently reignited their interest in Torreira, who shined this season for Galatasaray, playing a key role in their Super Lig victory.
Speaking to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Bentancur first discussed Torreira’s work at Galatasaray this season.
Torreira is a player who had a great season at Pescara, he was confirmed at Sampdoria. In his first year at Arsenal, he was the best midfielder ever.
But now he has reached footballing and personal maturity and in the last season he had his most scintillating campaign.
I can safely say that Galatasaray did not put him up for sale. Also, because he easily reached all the bonuses with an incredible performance this year.
He also confirmed that the Biancocelesti were looking to make a move for the Uruguayan midfielder and had scheduled a meeting.
I have to be honest. Next week I have an official appointment with the club, to hear their proposal. They’ll play in the Champions League, and Lucas has always loved Italy. However, I have to be very clear.
He is not for sale, but business is business, and players are players. We have this appointment, and we will go there. With respect for the great club that is Lazio and to hear what they want to propose.
Bentancur will meet with Lazio president Claudio Lotito next week to start sounding out a move. Galatasaray are keeping a close eye on the situation and want around €16-17m for the midfielder.
