Lazio’s first offer for Marcos Leonardo was rejected by Santos but the club are planning to return with improved terms, reports suggest.
The 20-year-old Brazilian caught the eye of president Claudio Lotito, who decided to personally work on a deal for the talented striker. The Santos forward scored five goals in five games at the Under-20 World Cup.
Lazio clearly need to sign a new striker this summer, having failed to replace Vedat Muriqi and Felipe Caicedo following their relatively recent departures.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio offered Santos around €12 million for Marcos Leonardo, but this was turned down, with the club hoping to earn at least €15-20 million for the 20-year-old.
The Biancocelesti want to return with a new offer and are hoping to bridge the gap by including a future resale clause.
Talks are ongoing and Lazio are hoping to finalise a deal before the start of their pre-season training camp in Auronzo di Cadore next month.
