Lazio Legend D’Amico Passes Away Aged 68

Lazio Scudetto winner Vincenzo D’Amico sadly passed away yesterday aged 68 at a hospital in Rome.

The former midfielder spent the majority of his 16-year playing career with the Biancocelesti, being part of the team from 1972 to 1980 before returning in 1981 for another four years. He closed out his career with a two-year spell at Ternana.

D’Amico was a key part of the Lazio squad that won the Scudetto in the 1973-74 season and became a legendary figure at the club. The Biancocelesti released a statement paying tribute to the former midfielder.

As widely reported, D’Amico passed away aged 68 on July 1 at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome after a two-year battle with cancer.

He made 336 appearances for Lazio during his playing career, scoring 49 goals in that time. Interestingly, D’Amico also scored the last ever goal in New York Cosmos history, netting in a 2-1 friendly loss to the Biancocelesti in 1985.
