Fabrizio Romano Provides Update on Milinkovic-Savic Future

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano took stock of the Sergej Milinkovic-Savic situation, explaining why the star midfielder may stay with Lazio for next season.

The 28-year-old’s contract expires with the Biancocelesti next summer and all signs suggested that he’d be sold in the coming months, with multiple clubs interested in picking him up.

With the summer transfer window now open, Lazio are ready to receive offers for Milinkovic-Savic, but they won’t let their star midfielder leave for cheap.

Speaking on SOS Fanta Live, Romano was asked if Milan would try to make a move for Milinkovic-Savic this summer.

At the moment I have no great signals. For me, to continue saying that Lotito will sell the sergeant for €20-30 million, until I see it with my own eyes, I won’t believe it.

I understand that those who have made a few phone calls to understand the situation have heard a figure much closer to 50 than 25.

I’m with Lotito on this. It’s true that he’s expiring, but I don’t understand why I have to give away one of the best players in the league to a competitor for €30 million? I’d rather keep him.

I’ll play him in the Champions League and maybe qualify for the one in 2024. Then I say goodbye to him in a year’s time and he’s the one who went elsewhere, not Lotito who sold him.

Knowing the president, he rarely gets caught out in these situations here. On Milinkovic-Savic, it will be anything but easy.

It is one thing if a foreign team arrives with €35-40 million, then there you can negotiate. In Italy, closing Milinkovic-Savic at €25-30 million will be hard for everyone.

Juventus are seemingly interested in making a move for Milinkovic-Savic this summer but their delicate financial position means they’ll need to sell first in order to generate the necessary resources.

Other clubs like Milan and Inter have also been linked with a move, but are seemingly focusing on other targets, reducing the options available for the Serbian midfielder.
